“The Tall Man” starring Jessica Biel and co-starring William B. Davis (CSM in The X-Files), Stephen McHattie (Red-Haired Man in Nisei/731 of The X-Files), and Jodelle Ferland finished shooting this week in Saskatchewan.  Shooting began in 2010 and producers hope for a fall release of the movie.

Directed by Pascale Laugier, the movie synopsis follows:

Synopsis:
Cold Rock, USA – A darkness hovers upon the town. Children have gone missing over the years, leaving neither a clue nor a witness. Superstitious locals talk of The Tall Man, a legendary, mysterious dark figure who takes children away, never to be seen again.

Julia (Jessica Biel) is a nurse living in Cold Rock who doesn’t believe in legends. Until one night, waking up with an eerie feeling, she goes to her son’s bedroom and finds his bed empty. Rushing downstairs, she stops dead in her tracks: A huge dark figure stands in the entrance holding her son, David. Driven by pure instinct, Julia rushes after them, willing to do whatever it takes to get her son back. The chase is on and with it the quest for answers. Who is The Tall Man? What becomes of the children?

Conceived as a “woman in jeopardy” movie – an outdoor Panic Room, The Tall Man is a suspenseful thriller in the vein of M. Night Shyamalan’s earlier films. Clothed in the myth of the boogeymen and monsters born of the folklore common to all cultures, it’s a story of the haunting secrets that hide behind closed doors.

William B. Davis, the iconic actor who portrayed Cigarette Smoking Man on The X-Files, has announced a new book: ”Where There’s Smoke…Musings of the Cigarette Smoking Man.”  The release date set by ECW Press is for Fall 2011.

In an article appearing in The Province, Davis said, “The X-Files was quite a ride, totally unexpected. I auditioned for the part of a senior FBI agent who had three lines. The part I got had no lines but I thought, it’s a gig. Who knew that it would grow into what it became?”

In addition to the book, you can see Davis in the movie Tall Man starring Jessica Biel, where is appearing as Sheriff Chestnut.  This week, fans can attend a play called “Waste,” which opens January 21 in Vancouver.  Davis is directing the play.

Coming in at #50 on the Entertainment Weekly list of ”50 Biggest Emmy Nomination Snubs is The X-Files own William B. Davis for his role as CSM / CGB Spender. It is hard to understand how such a perfectly portrayed villain could have been ignored for the award. The Cigarette Smoking Man was a multi-faceted, creepy, menacing (but I won’t say lovable) character who was vitally important to the mythology of the series.
