You can make a difference to tornado victims in the US.  On May 22nd, a massive tornado devastated the city of Joplin, MO, where over 900 people were hurt, 126 died, and 232 people are still missing.  Philes are gathering for a virtual X-Files Re-Watch Marathon in support of the tornado victims, May 27 through May 30th.

X-Files fan “Jenny” is sponsoring the X-Files Episode Marathon.  This event is listed on the official Joplin Tornado Relief Effort with the city.  Attendees of the marathon, whether you watch with XFiles Universe or elsewhere, are asked to donate to relief efforts.  Once you donate, please let her know on the official Facebook site at https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=173920249332640

Join us beginning Friday night at 10pm.  What episode do you want to see?  Let us know on FB, the XFU forums or at the event’s official Facebook page.  A minimum one dollar donation to any one of the charities listed below will be greatly appreciated by those hit by the tornadoes.

The event coordinator states, “Minimum donation is $1.00 to enter, which means all you have to do is donate $1.00 to one of the below charities that you choose, if you can donate more or wish to donate to multiple charities that would be awesome!  If you are able to participate in the marathon please post on the event wall which episodes you watched and how much was raised or donated so I can tally up a total for the Joplin Tornado Relief efforts. Remember any amount helps!”

Those that would like to get together for an episode viewing for this charity are welcome to use the XFilesUniverse chatroom in order to watch together (http://xfilesuniverse.com/chat/).

X-Files fans are well-known for philanthropy, and after the Japan earthquake and tsunami, X-Philes for Japan was formed.  This group is working to raise money for relief efforts in Japan.  There is a new official website where you can donate, buy merchandise (all proceeds go to the relief effort),  and stay current on news.

Soon X-Philes for Japan will announce details about a fundraiser.  You are going to love it!

An Australian site yourTV.com has listed The X-Files’ Mulder and Scully as one of TV’s Steamiest Couples.  Mulder and Scully come in at number six on their list, which seems ludicrous after seeing who come in at numbers 1-5!

Mulder and Scully’s relationship redefined steamy for many viewers.  A meaningful glance or linked fingers caused viewers to race to forums to discuss the importance of that action on the developing relationship.  ”Forehead sex” became a common term among ’shippers.’

Gillian Anderson posted a message today on her official website today explaining a change coming for OTSK — a new name!   ” The new name will be SA-YES South African Youth Education for Sustainability,” wrote  Gillian.

Gillian also wrote of the need for funds to help the SA-YES group become self-sustaining.  She announced via her site, “In the short term, I am going to auction another set of the Dave Wise photos which Dave himself had released online after the magazine ran. He gave me permission a while ago to print them up for auction.” The photos showed the sexy former X-Files star looking more beautiful than ever.

Gillian hopes to have Johnny English 2 premiere tickets to auction.  She also asks for monthly contributors, and reminds everyone to check out eBay for the Doodle Day auctions.  Check out her site for more details.

Rob Bowman, director and producer of some of the most loved X-Files episodes, turns 51 today!

Bowman directed numerous mythology episodes, such as “Paper Clip,” “731,” and “Memento Mori” as well as classic MOTW episodes like “Pusher” and “Orison.”  He produced some of the all-time greats, like “Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose” and “Home.”

In addition to X-Files,  Bowman has worked on sci-fi greats like Star Trek: the Next Generation and Quantum Leap. Currently Bowman is executive producer for Castle.

Happy Birthday!

Music from 40 episodes spanning all nine seasons is released in a 4-CD box set from La-La Land Records.  The CD set is produced by Mark Snow, James Nelson, and MV Gerhard.  There are only 3000 of this set available, so order soon! Price if $49.95 plus shipping.

I want to apologize on behalf of XFU for posting unauthorized photos from the parking lot at the book signing event, for contributing in any way to diverting attention from the memorial for Kim, from the stories the cast and crew shared on Saturday, or from the wonderful event planned by Erica Fraga and XFN.

Our intention in posting photos of the cones was never to cause controversy, but to share our curiosity and excitement. I never dreamed such an innocent act would contribute to such a reaction among the fandom.  I am saddened to see people say such harsh words about our site or XFN.

I do dispute that XFN repeatedly asked XFU for the issuance of a statement or demanded the photos be removed, and I can provide exact copies of all communication.  To date, I received 2 emails from Erica Fraga asking me to “deal with my representative” and I immediately started to try to get to the bottom of all of this.  This evening is the first time XFN contacted me asking for an apology and for removal of the photos, and I have happily done so.  Anything to stop all this mess!

This tempest has harmed XFU’s relationship with the author, with XFN, and has harmed the credibility of the event. I ask everyone to please refocus on the incredible afternoon spent with cast and crew of the best show ever, The X-Files!

Here is the reflection of the LAX-Files signing event from our reporter Courtney!

Tempus fugit! Really, where did the day go? It started early so I could print out my LAX-Files press pass for XFilesUniverse.com and represent the site that we all know and love. Traffic wasn’t so bad, considering the fact that AFI is located in the heart of Hollywood.

As I stood in the Mark Goodsen building I mingled with fellow Philes and heard some great stories. We shared our favorite episodes and all came to an agreement… X-Files 3 must happen!  I met dedicated fans who came from near and far, some flying in from Colorado or Pennsylvania just for the event!

After enjoying the goodies that were provided by Mardy’s Munchies, we made our way into the screening room. Seven directors’ chairs lined the stage.  As you saw in the updates, one had flowers on it and the others had water.  We wondered and anticipated the arrival of the panel, and we watched some incredible fan vids.  Then we saw a video with a message from Frank Spotnitz to remind us ”Dont Give Up!”  Of course, this is referencing our hope that X-Files 3 is given the greenlight.

Before the Q&A began,  an announcement was made and our hearts were slightly crushed. The mastermind behind X-Files, Chris Carter was ill and would not be in attendance. I later heard, though it was not confirmed at the time, that the special guest who was supposed to accompany Chris was David Duchovny. R.W. Goodwin and Sheila Larken also were unable to attend.

It turns out that the chair with the flowers was for Erica Fraga, the author and the organizer of this great event.  The other chairs were for Mitch Pileggi, Darin Morgan, Jeff Gulka, Glen Morgan, and James Wong.

We heard great stories from the panel and the focus kept returning to memories of Kim Manners.  You can read the updates on XFU for the funny stories, and we could see how much Kim was appreciated.

Mitch Pileggi shared that he was asked to read for the X Files 3 times. He nearly refused the third read until his manager insisted he go. But he was mad from the get-go, and didn’t greet anyone before his read.  His anger came across loud and clear, and that’s when they knew what Mitch brought to the table, and AD  Skinner was created. (Maybe 3 is the lucky number).

I’ve got to say the best part was when Mitch said that he was familiar with fanfiction and slash! He thought it was pretty funny, because he always wanted to play AD Skinner having a slight crush on Agent Scully.

Jeff Gulka talked about literally growing up while working on the XFiles. When asked of his fondest memory of the late Kim Manners, Gulka laughed and said being terrified of him yelling behind the camera. Other panelists spoke of Kim’s unique filming style and how they’ve seen his work being copied by current tv shows.

This of course reminded us that X-Files is still very much alive. Darin Morgan discussed how shows like Fringe try to attempt X-Files authenticity, but they were missing a key element: Chemistry. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson’s partnership carried the series in a way that cannot be recreated. Then he said that on Fringe, the question was always asked, “What would X-Files do?”

After the Q&A wrapped, the panel stepped outside where they hosted a very intimate meet and greet. Everyone was happy and willing to personalize their autographs by signing Erica Fraga’s LAX-Files (except for James Wong, who had a commitment and could not stay).

Mitch Pilleggi stayed longer than others and joked about the hysteria of some fans. He lauged and said he’s had girls crying and shaking while taking pictures.  I then promised I wouldn’t cry if he took a picture with me.

I had a great time at this event.  This is the first time I have ever attended something like this. 100% percent of the proceeds were donated to the American Cancer Society, in the honor of the late Kim Manners.

No announcements were made for X-Files 3. The only reference came from Darin, who said he’d like Flukeman to appear in a third movie, if one is made.  But like Erica Fraga autographed, ”Don’t Stop Believing!”

Thank you to Erica Fraga and XFiles News for organizing the event of the year!

In a little over twelve hours, the world’s eyes will turn to Los Angeles for the LAX-Files Signing event.  The Mark Goodsen Screening Room at AFI is the  location for this year’s hottest X-Files event.

As reported, Chris Carter, RW Goodwin, Jeff Gulka, Sheila Larken, Darin Morgan, Glen Morgan, Mitch Pileggi, and James Wong are attending a Q&A session.  XFiles Universe’s Courtney will be there with fingers to the text buttons on her phone to send the rest of us constant updates. The surprise guest is still a surprise, and those in the know report that there will be other surprises in the audience.
