The number of letters in Modell's middle name x [PATRICK, 7]

If January = 1, February = 2, March = 3, etc, the number of the month of Mulder's birth - [October or 10]

The number of letters in the missing word, "Sure. Fine. _______." + [whatever, 8]

The number of brothers that Scully has = 2

7 x 10 = 70; 70 - 8 = 62; 62 + 2 = ** 64 **

Exactly, Agent Skulder. These puzzles can be solved in a jiffy, people!
64 is indeed the correct answer. Now, would you like to pose the next puzzle, or should I? :sun

London Lady, good chicken-ese! Heading for the big 60...

FOR ANY NEW PLAYERS...
Magic Numbers is a multiple-part set of trivia questions that involve numbers. You simple add, multiply, or subtract one question's answer to/from another.

No calculator required!

This puzzle has 4 questions; 2 are "easy peasey!" Have fun!

1. In "Fresh Bones," X used a specific playing card to contact Mulder. This was the __ of Diamonds...  PLUS

2. Mulders' apt number __ ... TIMES

3. Total number of Mulder siblings __ MINUS

4. in "Deep Throat," how many DOLLARS __ does Mulder pay, to buy a UFO pic in the Flying Saucer Restaurant?  ---> EQUALS THE MAGIC NUMBER.

1. You what, mate?!
2. 42
3. 1
4. 25? I think that that was the amount. I remember Scully telling him, "Sucker," because she thinks that he wasted his money.

#2 - yes!
#3 - add Mulder ;)
#4 - close but no... Too high. Think "denominations."
#1 - you know how a deck of playing cards has 4 "suits" ...? One suit (picture) is diamonds. The character X signaled Mulder with, was a card that has diamonds. Was it the 3 of diamonds? The 6 of diamonds...? That's the number I'm looking for.

Obvious means, think denominations or how we might count in groups or clusters.

Not three... there are "3 bears" and "3 of a kind in poker" and "Three's Company" (old TV show), but its not an obvious number numerically.

Or, look the ep up...

Is it the 5 of Diamonds, then? We do count in 5's sometimes. Then again, we also count in 10's. Is it the 5 or 10 of Diamonds? Okay, one guess at a time: is it the 10 of Diamonds? :)

3. Total number of Mulder siblings __ MINUS

4. in "Deep Throat," how many DOLLARS __ does Mulder pay, to buy a UFO pic in the Flying Saucer Restaurant? ---> EQUALS THE MAGIC NUMBER.

So, we have:

1. 10 +
2. 42 x
3. 2 -
4. 20

= 10 + 42 x 2 - 20 = 52 x 2 - 20 = 104 - 20 = 84.

The Magic Number is 84. :)

It's summer ... lots of people ducking heat waves???? Too loud fireworks??? Making up time at gyms to hit beaches??? :dk

1. If A = 1, B = 2, C = 3, etc, the number representing the last letter of Scully's daughter's name
{times} x [emily, y = 25]

2. The total number of all the Mulder and Scully siblings {minus} -   (M2 + S4 = 6]

3. The total no. of letters in the title of the episode that features the character, Linda Bowman + [Kitsunegari=11]

4. "Folie a Deux" means, "a madness shared by ___." = 2

ANS = 141; breakdown---
(25 x 6) = 150, (150 - 11) = 139; (139 +2) = 141.

I suppose you're right, Agent Skulder, regarding why there are so few gamers on XFU at the moment. However, there were hardly any players before Summer as well. I hope that more people join you and I in Autumn. :-)

The total number of XF episodes PLUS

The total number of XF movies, MINUS

The total number of XF seasons, TIMES

The total number of characters in the final scene of the final episode.

LOL, Agent Skulder! You really couldn't have made it much simpler. In the interests of good sportsmanship, I shall wait a few days to see whether anybody else wanders into this thread, even if by mistake, and decides to give this game a try.

I wonder whether JC has spotted this game yet.

Correct!

Each component is just a trivia question with a number / numeric component. For sanity preservation -
1) A maximum of 5 components / parts
2) NO division (due to decimals)
3) NO real need for a calculator

It can even be something where the number is the "number of letters in the answer." Ex: mulder's boss' name = 7 (since skinner has 7 letters).

You're up!

.... it's just us and our crickets, Fogerty & Cook. Take as long as you need, or if someone does feel creative they may also post!

This game has been scary from the get-go. Potential players see "numbers" in the title and are transported back to math class.

IT'S JUST TRIVIA WITH A FEW COMMON NUMBERS, FOLKS!

No upsetting math / "maths" involved!

I was actually thinking of making this a little more demanding (well, maybe not in the mathematical sense, I just want to use numbers with XF significance), which is why it's taking me so long.

Yep... the puzzle I had posted was over-simplified, primarily so someone new would try it.

For too long, London Lady and I were volleying back & forth. We wanted others to join in.

Until / unless XFU forum traffic picks up it's tough getting new players. I've tried telling members on more active boards about the Games sub-forum (since that's what distinguishes XFU), but many would rather tweet than guess letters, etc... It's not "immediate" enough for some, having to wait for answers to be confirmed.
