Most confusing part of the mythology

I actually have a pretty good understanding of the mytharc these days, but I used to find the SuperSoldiers and clones/hybrids rather confusing.

The Super Soldiers and William. I understand everything a lot better now but back then Super Soldiers and William confused me quite a bit.

I voted for the super soldiers, I'm just confused on their ultimate intent and how Mulder and Scully will deal with them in X Files 3. Maybe Mulder and Scully live on top of a huge lot of magnetite ore and will find a way to make weapons, so that they can finish off the Super Soldiers in X Files 3.

The super soldier line of thought was not clearly represented. Or, perhaps, it wasn't clearly played out. Because I didn't get this I really didn't get the "faceless rebels". In fact, I just (purposely) forget that the faceless rebels exist. I don't understand how they play into the mythology at all.

As such, I selected "William" as my other "Confusing" aspect. William pains me more than the faceless rebels. I suppose it's less of a confusion and more of a belief that I did not like the aspect in which William was brought into the show. Ugh... I'm sure I'm not explaining myself well here... I just didn't like the circumstances.

I'm totally with you on this, Oro. This was one of the most misguided bits of plot development in the history of XF. That and the super soldiers.

Defintely not the most confusing part of the Mythology, but after reading over Salome's awesome reviews of "Patient X" / "The Red and the Black", I find myself wondering why the Americans and Russians were competing so much for the vaccine. In the interest of humanity, shouldn't they have collaborated? I realized there was a lot of trust issues left over from the Cold War, but we're talking about alien colonization, something that would destroy both countries!

I just watched the third portion of the 'Threads of the Mythology', and it begins with the clone of Samantha telling Mulder that all of the clones come from two original visitors. I've seen "Colony"/"End Game" at least a half dozen times each, and I don't remember that line before. I'm wondering how it even fits in to the greater mythology and overall colonization arc (but I imagine it should, since they specifically showed that clip for this documentary).

Anyone have any ideas?

I'm not surprised that voting shows that the Super Soldiers were the most confusing aspect of the mythology. Why were they introduced so late in the series? I think that the mythology was complex, and brilliant, enough already.

What frustrated me was that, near the end of season 5, the movie, and beginning of season 6, the series developed a really neat mythology with the black oil, the alien colonization, the Syndicate, and then the rebels.

I think it was an AV Club review that noted that the idea of an intergalactic showdown between two alien types, with humans caught in the middle would've been awesome! Instead, Carter and co. destroyed the Syndicate (not a bad move), but never followed through. The rebels just disappeared, the black oil never reappeared (save for "Vienan", which is my fav 8th season ep, just because it ties nicely in with the old mythology), and then the dumb super soldiers popped up.

Frankly, a lot of people complained that season 7 had too many stand-alones, and I can agree, but some of those were good. The mythology episodes, however, sucked. The show should've ended in season 7 and the last 4-6 episodes should've been a denouncement arc, showing how Mulder and Scully defeat the aliens.

And if they had really wanted to have a season 8, it should've been MoTW for the first half (like it was), then alien ass-kicking the second (like it wasn't). Instead, we got Fire/Evil people and a lizard.
