1013 - 8 (I think) - 3 (siblings, not including Scully herself) = 1002

What's the Magic Number?
(The first name of the teenager who went missing in "Conduit") plus (The first word only of the Season 3 finale) minus ("___ Breath," episode title) =

N.B. For anyone who wants to guess the answer but doesn't want to pose the next puzzle, feel free to guess, then if you win the round, just pass your turn. CSM_Clone, Gillyinfatuation, and Agent Skulder have all posed excellent Magic Number puzzles, so maybe pass to one of them, or you could pass your turn to me! :D

Ok - no icon, so close eyes and imagine visual and sound of extending interlaced fingers perpendicular to body, cracking knuckles ...

First, Latin was a while ago. Not as long as the days of Gaul ... But is NB nota bene (note well)?

My guess is: 8 :?
Ruby (4) + Talitha (7)= 11 minus "One" Breath (3) = 8
Close?

Yes, N.B. is Latin for 'nota bene,' which means, as you said, note well.

Oh, Agent Skulder, perhaps I wasn't clear. When I said, "___ Breath," I meant: use the number of breaths in the title, not the number of letters in the word. Try again because your other answers are correct! ;)

Ah, I see ...  I literally laughed out loud while taking many breaths.... So I'll try again:
My new guess is: 10...
Ruby (4) + Talitha (7)= 11 minus "One" Breath (1) = 10

....I don't think it's the math that trips us up - it's the reading with both eyes open!

I think I'm following in your keystrokes - I was just there! Very clever! And wasn't Billy Drago the perfect Peetie? Btw he is one busy actor - he has 2-3 movies or videos due out this year, plus he's on board for films in 2012 & 2014- all thrillers. I'd rather watch actors like him than all the Brad Pitts in the world.

I must be fading... When I first read your question I thought "IBM?" (which was also known as Big Blue way back in the 70s....) Then I shook off the cobwebs and realized you mean the monster ...! I'll see what I can come up with.

Yes, Billy Drago was excellent. LOL regarding IBM being "Big Blue." They are about as old as each other! I have a Toshiba computer from 1999, which I hardly ever use any more, that would be considered a dinosaur!

I await your next Magic Number puzzle, and your next silly answer and silly question!

Oh, and BTW, I got my wish: we have a snow day today. Yippee! :D

A favour written in my favourite pink will usually be granted! LOL! I don't think that anyone else is playing this game except you and I, Agent Skulder, and maybe CSM_Clone, but here is the next Magic Number puzzle:

(The number that John Lee Roche said is "magical") plus (The last number of the year that Samantha Mulder was abducted, 197_) multiplied by (Scully's daughter's first name) =

Calling all math phoebes....This is really more trivia than math.

Original Puzzle:
(The number that John Lee Roche said is "magical") plus
(The last number of the year that Samantha Mulder was abducted, 197_)... multiplied by (Scully's daughter's first name) =

MY SEARCHING AND LOGIC:
• If JLR's magical number = 13, and if Samantha was abducted in 197...3, 13+3= 16;
• Scully's daughter was Emily = 5 letters total
• 16 x 5 = Magic Number 80

Exactly! You're up....

.... This thread could be the genesis of a directory or mini-blog: "XFiles By the Numbers." You don't realize where numbers hide in episodes until you look for them (like the "7" stars on the Temple of Ephesian in an earlier clue).

Okay, here goes. I have to admit that I did have to research the first two numbers, and double-check the third number. However, I did the actual arithmetic all by myself, although I confirmed my answer using the calculator on my computer. ;) :

(The last number of Scully's Badge No., JTT0331613) = 3
plus (Marjorie Butters' age in the 7th season episode 15) = 118
multiplied by (The last number of the year in which a UFO crashed in Roswell, 1947) = 7

So, we have: 3 + 118 x 7 = 121 x 7 = 847
The Magic Number is 847.
