When did you join the fandom?

When did you become a fan? I mean a real fan, as in discussing the show online or with your friends, collecting merchandise, going to conventions etc.

I've been a fan since the early days, which is something I'm very proud of. I came to America in 1993, just about 3 months before the original airing of the "Pilot". Looking back, I guess it must have been fate, lol...

i became an actively-viewing fan in 2002, and starting getting the seasons as gifts in '04. i also discovered fan fiction that year, and became really involved in the fan sites (as in frequenting them and all that). but i didn't join a forum until i joined old xfu in early '08.

never been to a convention, though.

1997, when the reruns started airing on FX. That was the summer right before I started High School. What a great time!

I started watching the series when it first aired. After the show ended, year after year (only once in a while), I'd surf the internet for news of an XF2. Before XF2, I had never thought about joining the fandom and discussing XF with philes on line.

Then right as there was buzz beginning about an XF2, that's when I found the old XFU. I think I joined probably about the same time as MA did.

I started watching the series in summer 1998 but I joined the fandom much later. After the series ended I checked for news on X-files and Gillian surfing the net but I joined the fandom (the old XFU) in June 2009.

I’ve been a fan since the Pilot (1993) first aired; I used to go online on occasion. However, one day last year I found the old XFU site (Dec 2009) and thought it would be fun to start posting again. What attracted me to the site were the fantastic threads of Gillian and Scully, those threads just kept me entertained, as they still do now. I also joined to get a better understanding of seasons 8 and 9, because they were not my favorite seasons. I was given excellent insight into the characters of Doggett and Reyes from many fans and now I love both seasons.

I started watching when the Pilot aired in 1993. My best friend and I would watch it every week and chat about the show. I didn't join the fandom until last yr actually when I found the old XFU. I never knew there were fanfics or boards like this, I guess I was just way behind the times;)

I started collecting since the firt year, and talked online when I had a pc, wich was obviously later. But I remember in highschool we ALL talked about x files.

I'm a fan of the show since it first aired in Poland, which was around 1995 (makes me a bit sad that even though I can say I'm a fan from the beginning, it is still two years shorter than US fans ), but I didn't join the online fandon untill they started shooting IWTB.

I've been a fan since the beginning. I bought my first computer in 97, immediately subscribed to the blazing fast dial-up internet , and my first move was to join FOX.com's xfiles site.

My weekly ritual was to browse all the site's that had their spies out looking for script exerpts and photos, then we would all speculate what was going to happen, then after the show immediately all of us would run to the forum and talk about it. I've got some magazines, some signed stuff, etc, but as the family mom didn't buy a whole lot. Now I could kick myself!

I saw FTF in theaters.

I was heartbroken when FOX closed that site.

I didn't join another site until XFiles Ultimate opened. He opened in October and I joined in December. I was there until Damien closed the site in spring 2010, then we opened XFiles Universe in June 2010.

I had seen bits and pieces growing up, and the Flukeman statue ads in comic books intrigued me, but I never started watching it until before the second movie came out. They were playing it on Sci-Fi and I said "I bet I'll love this show" because I'm all things paranormal and aliens haha. I did love it. My friend bought them on DVD and I watched them.

Now I'm 24 and I become a fan bc of my mom when I was 9 years old. She was watching X-files at TV I couldn't sleep so she allowed me to sit with her and watch it. Since that time I couldn't sleep on every Thursday evening bc I wanted to watch the show with her. When I was 12 I started to search the web to find some boards or pix from the series.. So I'm a fan about 15 years now and it is more than the half of my life.

@Siven, we are a lot alike! I am 22 now, but officially joined the fandom when I was around 11, but watched some episodes with my dad since I was around 9 or 10. It started with ss8 and I loved it and eventually watched the whole series. I converted my husband, then boyfriend when I was around 16 or 17! LOL

In addition IceQueen - your recent indoctrination as a Phile proves the timelessness of the series. You were as captivated mere months ago as many of us were 18 YEARS ago! You can't say that about too many series. But unless someone has taken the time to watch the episodes and films, it's a phenomenon that defies description.

IQ444, I agree with Setsenia, you really know the characters extremely well, I thought you had been a fan since the beginning, that's great that the X Files can win over so many new fans, the show is timeless.

Edit: I went back to read your introduction and you are a new fan, I'm just amazed at how much you know about the characters from our RPG fanfic game.

i watched when the series was running in the 90's. wasn't diehard but enjoyed much. but, i did stop for the most part after season 7. i think recently was the first time i saw the ending, that i can remember, anyway. what drew me in way back were the metaphysical themes...i love this sh*t! i think DD is great actor with lots of charisma and humor. GA is great as well. they both have great chemistry together that you can see onscreen and which kept the series running for so long, i think.

just started watching again a couple of months ago...non-stop. i was sooo pleased to see BBC america air episodes, that it got me watching again. i pretty much watch after work till bed and on the weekends via netflix. i skip around seasons.

it's been a great stress reliever and fantasy land for me

LOL Yep SA88 It was either the 16th or the 15th I don't remember the exact day... It kind of spilled into each other as I watched it until about 2 or 3 AM ^_^ I'm glad to be die hard material hehe.Yeah I'm hyper observant because of my acting stuff so I tend to understand people pretty quickly especially characters. I could have and probably should have been a hie hard from about season 6 or so as that was when I started to discover fandoms but since I was a little under a year old when the pilot came out and my parents weren't really fans of it I didn't get into it until recently.

Wow, its weird to think that some people have been X-Philes MY WHOLE LIFE...
But anyway, I've only been a fan for a couple of years or so. I first started watching it during study leave, (had to find something to distract me from my revision heehee) when the FX channel over here started showing the re-runs. I think the moment I first realized that I had become a fan was when 1 episode a day wasn't enough...and then mid-way through series 4 they stopped showing it!
Anyway, so here I am now.
