Well, crickets are fine, as long as they don't come into my house!

Next character: "Look, I'm only trying to take away people's emotional pain. I know...wooooah! That was close. I nearly fell down!"

London Lady, apparently it's not or there would be a guess or two after 5 days... Perhaps a clue might help illuminate the solution to:

"Look, I'm only trying to take away people's emotional pain. I know...wooooah! That was close. I nearly fell down!"

Actually, this one is very easy. There is only one character on, "The X Files" who specifically thought that s/he was taking away his/her victims emotional pain. Also, the, "... wooooah! That was close. I nearly fell down!" is a big clue. One can only fall down if one is what?

I think that nobody has guessed this character because hardly anybody has seen the puzzle!

I think we can all agree that something is easy ... when you already know the answer! :)

To deconstruct this, working backwards -

One can only fall down if someone is already standing, yes? So the character usually, ummmm, STANDS? Or Always stands? Cannot sit? ...

"Taking away pain..." All that comes to mind is that "monster" in S8 or 9 that Mulder went to see to cure his brain condition, that Doggett went looking for to find clues about Mulder's disappearance. But I'm guessing that's not the character....

Ten days later, we're open to more clues. Unless our crickets are really intelligent beings & would like to join us...

ROTFL! The character can sit, but when we first see him/her, s/he is definitely standing.

Agent Skulder wrote:"Taking away pain..." All that comes to mind is that "monster" in S8 or 9 that Mulder went to see to cure his brain condition, that Doggett went looking for to find clues about Mulder's disappearance. But I'm guessing that's not the character....

You are correct that the soul eater in, "The Gift," in the 8th series, is not the character that I have in mind. I had forgotten your penchant for over-complicating things for yourself! Think simple! :)

Agent Skulder wrote:Unless our crickets are really intelligent beings & would like to join us...

LOL! I think that the crickets are intelligent, but they are also abnormally shy! Maybe if you and I are really quiet, one of them might summon up the courage to post the correct answer!

However, while we are waiting for The Bravest Cricket to emerge, here is another clue. It's a big one, so, as Mulder said to Scully, "Don't say I never did nothin' for ya!":
This character appears in the 4th series. Now, you surely must know the answer! :)

New character:

All I wanted to do was help Scully. So at that research facility, after I pushed her down the stairs (I never expected her to find me!) I was shocked when she nearly ran me down with her car. Thank goodness I got her to listen to me. If she had arrested me, she would have gotten me killed!"

Kurt Crawford? For some reason, I was thinking of him recently, and how handsome he was! :)

May I?

I actually have TWO characters in mind, but they both share a lot of common characteristics, which will become evident as soon as you guess them.

I am a terrible judge of characters, but apparently I believed the '90s was the age of innocence. Because of my naïvety, I endager my daughters and I *really* don't know how to flirt. But at least I save a fortune on keys, as I never lock the door.

Thank you! I'm actually an old timer in XF forums, so I think I'll be able to find my way around.

I just wanted to clarify that my description is about TWO characters; one of them is really bad at flirting and the other never locks the doors, but they are both naive and put their daughters in danger. They also share another very important characteristic, but I can't elaborate more on that, because it will give the answer away.

HB, I think that in all fairness to fellow players, we really should only use one character at a time, rather than combining characters. That's too confusing. Often, an answer seems obvious to the person posing the puzzle simply because s/he knows the answer!

Could you rewrite your description for just one character? thank]

The "one" daughter might help... I nearly posted this yesterday but I think it's wrong. No harm, right?

All I can think of is the would-be writer mom (of the blind daughter) in Too Shy. I'm not sure whether she locked her door but that was one of the few mother-daughter duos I could think of...

Ummmmmmm.... I can't tell you how close you are!

When I originally posted my clues, I said that I was looking for two characters who have A LOT in common. LondonLady asked me to just stick to one character and so I changed my description, but the would-be poet mum from "2Shy" was one of these two characters... but not the one I'm looking for.

You are SO close, though!!!!

No, it's not the mum from 'Conduit'.

The episode I'm looking for is A LOT later than "Conduit" and quite earlier than "2Shy". The character clearly says that they always leave their back door open (hence my keys comment).

Is it the mother in, "Irresistible"? She had dark wavy hair. I remember thinking how silly she was for allowing Donnie Pfaster into her house, but, of course, she didn't know who he was! I now remember her saying that they leave their doors unlocked.

Yes, you are correct!

If you remember, it was the same actress who played both "Irresistible" AND "2Shy" mum. Both mums had daughters ("Irresistible" mum had three daughters -- we only saw one --, "2Shy" mum had only one daughter, Jessie, who was blind). Both mums were nice to the point of stupidity to the MOTWs ("2Shy" mum flirted with him!) and their daughters could have been seriously endangered because of that.

Now that you mention it, yes, it was the same actress, wasn't it? Maybe it was the same mother, and she had two separate families! That might explain why she was so trusting!

LOL, HB! No, it's not Mr. Peattie, who probably watched, "Psycho" a few too many times!

I suggest that players re-read what this character is saying. Imagine the tone of voice. Look at the details of what this person is saying. It really isn't too difficult. ;)
